At Tree and Twig Heirloom Vegetable Farm my specialty and passion is Heirloom vegetables. Growing heirlooms is an exciting way to try new and unusual tastes, shapes and colours. But more than that it is an effort to maintain the genetic diversity of our food crops. Many varieties have disappeared forever and there is interest in keeping these older varieties in circulation. Heirlooms, unlike some hybrids, are not grown for their ability to withstand shipping and chemicals or their uniform look at market. They are grown for taste. Eat in the past!

Mail order of transplants across Canada is a reality. The CSA has remained very popular and it has been very difficult to take on new subscriptions... read more about the changes to the CSA for 2008.

Also this year my retail stand at the farm will be up and running early... greens available in April. Please note my produce and transplants will be available this season at a number of area retailers . I continue to offer unique and colourful items for restaurants. More than 400 varieties of tomatoes, a unique salad mix, peppers of every hue and heat unit, eggplants of mind bending colours and shapes. Greens you have never heard of, beans of all colours and sizes... it goes on and on. I am growing more than 1000 varieties of veggies on my intensively planted piece of land. What fun! Please take advantage of my gift baskets. They are beautiful and can be picked up at the farm, or mail ordered.

I also grow organically, and firmly believe in what I do. I am concerned about the impact of traditional agriculture on our environment and health. I use no "cides", as in pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides. No GMOs...only untreated, or organic seed where possible and I practise environmentally sound methods of gardening, such as crop rotation, cover cropping and get your hands dirty one on one bug ambushes!
